The Clock Room Problem

Generative Digital Art

Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris

Role: Ideation, Projection Mapping, Coding,

        Video and Music Production

Duration: 4 Months (2017)

Team: Jing Sun, Serra Cenkciler (Art Historian)

As a part of the collaboration between Parsons, Paris and Musée des Arts Décoratifs our team was asked to come up with design solutions for 'Un cabinet d'amateur', the so-called Clock Room at the musuem. Our aim was to make the room more inviting and attractive for a wider range of visitors.

Concept:

Idea:

On the third floor of the Museum, the Clock Room presents thirty-three clocks which date between 17th and 19th centuries. The space is very small and mute, however, having 'time' as the theme provides us with endless opportunities. Everyone can have a unique interpretation of this notion.

The plan is to turn the Clock Room into a collaborative space where invited artists come to create site-specific generative art/coding/new media pieces. The work will be submitted digitally and projected on the wall. The contemporary interventions will create an interesting contrast with the older pieces displayed in the room, which will attract a wider range of visitors.

This will be a yearly intervention which will take place during FIAC.

Process:

1)  Creating Generative Art using Processing.

2) Using Syphon to send live video frames from Processing to Resolume Arena. (Tutorial)

3) Adding visual effects and projection mapping through Resolume Arena.
